Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, and the Copywriter will be responsible for developing copy for various promotional programs and campaigns, while ensuring accuracy of content, editorial consistency and correct brand positioning.  The Copywriter must have the ability to transform subject matter into relevant and highly engaging messages that captivates, influences and educates both internal and external audiences. Audiences include HOOPP members, employers, HOOPP ambassadors, unions, government officials and the general public.


This candidate should have a strong portfolio of written pieces reflective of writing responsibilities outlined below.

Duties and Responsibilities

     Research, write, and edit promotional content for digital media including but not limited to HOOPP’s website (which is search-engine optimized) and secure portals, social and collaborative spaces (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs etc.), newsletters, videos, infographics, posters and brochures.

     Contribute ideas to creative concepts to support project objectives and business strategies

     Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and help them convey messages.

     Present ideas and collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Team to determine the conceptual and copy direction of branding and advertising initiatives, and to develop editorial content for our website.

     Work closely with the creative services team to ensure design and copy come together effectively to meet project objectives. 

     Works with the M&C writer to establish and maintain HOOPP’s corporate voice and provides suggestions on how to improve communications, where necessary.

     Translate technical information into captivating, engaging, and audience-appropriate content.

     Ensures that all content is consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and social promotion.

     Provides communication recommendations in response to user testing and feedback from target audience, business stakeholders, and/or other members of the Marketing & Communications Team.

     Monitor and remain current on new trends and best practice approaches in web and social media, and incorporate as appropriate to increase user engagement and content effectiveness.

Qualifications and Skills

     Bachelor's Degree in in Communications/Advertising/Journalism/Media Studies, or equivalent experience.

     5 to 7 years of digital marketing and communications experience required, working either agency-side on corporate content or working directly with a corporate marketing team.

     Ability to write for various digital and multimedia platforms, including web content to enhance search engine optimization (SEO).

     Ability to express ideas clearly and succinctly, and consistently demonstrate logic, creativity and imagination under pressure.

     Proven ability to write good, clear promotional copy in a variety of styles with accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar.

     Exceptional communication, proofreading, editing and interviewing skills, combined with excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal abilities.

     Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and stakeholders effectively, while on tight deadlines in a detail-driven environment.

     High levels of professional resilience and the willingness to accept constructive criticism of work output.

     High level of marketing and promotional awareness with the proven ability to understand and adapt copy to meet the needs of different target audiences.

     Proficiency in both PC and Mac operating systems is essential, as is working knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
